Appealing a ban

What an appeal is for, how to write one, and what will not work.

You can always appeal

Every punishment can be appealed, including permanent bans. Open a Ban / Kick Appeal — you can still sign in to this site while banned from the city.

The only exceptions are bans for abusing real people, which are final. See rule 1.1.

What an appeal is

An appeal asks staff to look again at whether the punishment was right and proportionate. It is not a second argument about the incident, and it is not a chance to relitigate a scene.

Writing one that works

  • Say what happened, honestly. Staff have the original log and the reporting player's evidence in front of them. Rule 8.5 exists because people forget this.
  • Show that you understand which rule you broke and why it exists.
  • Say what you would do differently. This is the part that actually changes outcomes.

What does not work

  • "I did nothing wrong" when the log says otherwise.
  • Blaming a friend, your ping, or the person who reported you.
  • Opening a second appeal because the first was denied.
  • Joining on another account while you wait. That converts a temporary ban into a permanent one — rule 8.7.

How long it takes

Appeals are reviewed by senior staff rather than whoever is online, so they take longer than an ordinary ticket. Days rather than hours is normal. You will get the decision on the ticket.
