Troubleshooting

Connection and crash problems

The fixes that solve most joining, loading, and crashing problems.

Work through these in order

Most problems are solved by one of the first three.

1. Restart properly

Fully close FiveM and GTA V, then start FiveM again. Not a reconnect — a full restart.

2. Clear your FiveM cache

This fixes stuck loading screens and corrupted downloads more often than anything else.

  1. Close FiveM completely.
  2. Open %localappdata%\FiveM\FiveM.app\data in Explorer.
  3. Delete the cache folder.
  4. Start FiveM again and reconnect. The next join will re-download content, so it will be slow once.

3. Verify your game files

Steam: right-click GTA V, Properties, Installed Files, Verify. Rockstar and Epic have the same option under their own launchers.

Stuck on a black screen after the loading screen

Give it a full two minutes — the city is still loading behind it. If it never clears, clear the cache as above.

Disconnected mid-session

Usually your connection rather than ours. Check the home page — if the status card says the server is online and other people are on it, the problem is at your end. If it says offline, it is a restart and it will be back shortly.

Poor performance

  • Turn off any overlays you are not using — Discord, Steam, GeForce, MSI Afterburner. Overlays are a very common cause of crashes in FiveM specifically.
  • Drop your graphics settings, then your resolution. The city is much heavier than singleplayer GTA.
  • Update your graphics drivers.

Still broken

Open a support ticket and say exactly which of the above you have already tried, plus any error code word for word. That single sentence saves a day of back and forth.
